One Last Time

"Hello" Kate picked up her phone in the middle of her packing process. Her flight is in 22hours and 18 minutes counting the time leaving to New York, with a temporary good bye to Kanas State .

"Kate there is something I got to tell you" Aidan's voice cracked through the phone.
"What's it?" Kate asked. Lot of things were going on inside her head , concerning her job and her cat fluffy. She always had nothing to worry about her parents has her mother had died when she was young and her father remarrying for every three years. "Peter is admitted in the hospital, I thought I should let you know" Aidan's disinterest was evident in his voice. But the news had scared the hell out of Kate. Her heart throbbing against her chest.

"What happened? How did it.." her voice trailed off. "Can you come home now " she asked Aidan.
"Nothing's wrong Katie, just a very minor accident . He is fine. " he assured her. Aidan is the only one who called Kate Katie.
"Can you come now" she asked again.
"You are not gonna visit, are you ! "
"Yes. Take me there please.. " she begged. Kate could feel Aidan's disappointment again as she spoke. "Fine" he said and hung up on her. Kate walked over and looked at herself . Pale and sad with tear stained face.
'Today s the last day am gonna be here. Should I tell him ? Or not ! After all these years.. should I let him know for one last time " Kate had been in love with Peter for past three years since college and never had he ever understood that.. They were in the same math class and talked occasionally as friends. He was a very popular guy in college which made him too blind to see her and feel her very existence.
Aidan picked up Kate and drove to the hospital " second floor to left room 3 " he gave her the direction getting out of the car.
"Come with me " she told him
"No" he said.Aidan and Peter had been good friends when they were in school until Peter's rise to popularity, absurdity and lack of time for his friends and Kate's entry.
"Please" she pleaded pulling his hands to walk with her. Aidan has never been able to deny anything Kate had told him or asked him to apart from being best friends, were Kate went too busy to notice.
The act of entering the room without knocking was a grave mistake. The scene of Peter snogging Caroline the attitude came alive girl in the college digged a deep hole in Kate's chest. "Let's go" Aidan murmered irritated.
"No wait" Kate told him back suppressing her emotions.
"Oh you" Caroline moved from Peter with a silly attitude on her face. "How are you" she basked Peter wishing she had listened to Aidan . Aidan was holding her hands . Peter had only a fracture in his right leg and few scratches here and there.
"Pretty good" he said pointing to his legs later looking at Aidan who spoke nothing.Peter looked troubled like a cat caught stealing in front of Caroline to see Kate.
"Came to visit a friend of mine working here she told me you are admitted here.so thought I'll give You a visit.." Kate lied.
"Thank you " he said and nodding to Aidan. 

"Got a job.. flying to New York tomorrow" she let him know even though he didn't bother to ask her how she is or what she's doing.
"That's good. Okay" that was all he said.It was apparent that he never cared. Kate had hinted him many time how she has feelings for him but never had he ever bothered to think about it.
"Peter and I are moving in together" Caroline said sitting on the bed with Peter. Kate's stomach clenched on what she has heard. Her head starting to spin around. Aidan's hands gripped tightly around hers hurting .

"Katie we are getting late for our dinner" all the three faces in the room turned towards him shockingly together. 'Nice' he thought.
"You are with Aidan..? " Caroline asked in utter shock and Peter looking baffled. "And nobody knew" Caroline continued. Aidan shrugged.
'Not even me' Kate thought. She flushed at the very thought 'you're so dead Aidan'

Kate wanted to tell Peter desperately but the things had totally gone out of hands.
Kate felt the earth slip away from her feet below. "Okay then bye." She said' forever'. Her heart in her throat . She decided to never reveal the things to Peter ever in her life and shivered on the very thought with a surging pain.
This was her final chance to tell him, let him know how much her heart had beaten for him how much she liked him now all shattered and taken a new phase in the form of deep hatred. Feeling all disgusted and shamed with the picture of Peter snogging Caroline in her eyes Kate ran out of the room to the parking lot burying her feelings forever for the man who never deserved them, Aidan behind her trying to calm her down. It was cloudy and dark outside with the chance for rain. Summer had ended very fast and the rain has come as a  beginning of a new season and new set of dreams for people , as chances.

"Katie stop"he said holding her sitting inside his car. Kate has been crying for a long time in his shirt. He moved her brown hair off her face looking into her tear filled dull hazel eyes. For the first time ever Kate looked at Aidan closely into his deep ocean blue eyes bright with hopes and something that she never understood before . 

" Why did you lie..? " She asked him slowly wearing off from her weeping mood.
"To save you from everything you would have felt out there " he replied. But Kate searched his eyes.
"And it has been my dream for a long time." He whispered planting a kiss on her forehead. Kate stopped breathing 'No' she thought. 'It can't be'. But she already has realized how much she wanna flee and be alone for the rest of her life. She understood she is gonna hurt someone and cannot be helped by it.
"Yes I have always Katie" he answered her confessing for one last time before she left the state.
